La Maison du Whisky (LMDW) was founded by Georges Benitah in 1956, and it is now one of France’s largest whisky and rum importers and distributors, with a global reputation. They opened their first shop in Paris in 1968, at 20 Rue d’Anjou, and began importing Scotch malt whiskey in the 1970s. They’re famed for their expertise in not only Scotch but also Japanese whisky and rum, and their collaborative bottlings, as well as their own independent labels like this one, are in high demand.
As part of their eleventh Artist Collection, this was bottled.
This Chichibu single malt was bottled in 2020 from a bourbon barrel.
The Chichibu distillery in Saitama, Japan, opened in 2008 and was the first of its kind in the country. Since Suntory opened Hakushu in 1973, this is the country’s first new distillery. Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the creator of the famed Hanyu distillery, came up with the idea for Chichibu. The Ichiro’s Malt brand debuted in 2005 and gained to prominence thanks to the bottling of Hanyu’s final barrels, particularly the coveted ‘Card’ series. In 2011, the first Chichibu releases were released under it.
